Under the bright lights of Petco Park, thousands celebrated Filipino Heritage Day.
Recognized members of the Filipino community were honored, for their contributions to the country, the world and city of San Diego.

There is no mistaken that the beauty of what makes our country so great,is it’s celebrated multi cultural diversity. Through food and dance, music and dress, many attendees to the ball park were able to taste great food and experience a small part of the rich culture of the Philippines.

Among the celebrated guest honored on the field prior to the game were Ret. Assemblywoman Shirley Horton, California Legislator 2002–2008 / author of AB420 reinstating the Filipino language in California Schools, Hon. Lillian Lim, First Filipino Woman Judge appointed to the bench in the United States (represented by brother, Al Lim, Jr.), Assistant Chief of Police Cesar Solis, Highest ranking Asian/Filipino American in the San Diego Police Force
Dr. Barbara Yorobe, Founding President and Chairwoman of the Filipino American Humanitarian Foundation, Inc. , Lucy del Rosario Gonzales (June 9, 1931 – April 14,2009), Founded Maria Clara de Pilipinas Sorority (MCPS) in 1969, (award to be received by daughter Leonore Gonzales Payne)

One of the nights additional highlights, was the ceremonial first pitch, thrown out by professional boxer Manny Paquiao.  We would have to agree that Manny is "Pound For Pound,The Best Honorary Member of The Padres”. At a press conference before the game, Manny was awarded the San Diego Padres #1 jersey.

From our vantage point looks like Manny was going for a fast ball up and in! The Pitch
crossed the plate and smiles crossed the faces of thousands of on-lookers as Manny received
the first pitch ball and the game got under way.

Thanks to the San Diego Padres, for recognizing all the cultural diversity, which embodies the community but on this day the glitz and glamour were for our fellow citizens, fellow, Americans and members of the Filipino community in San Diego.   Filipino Heritage Day was a fun, colorful celebration, filled with laughter and smiles.
